Position Description

In this role, Senior Estimators will work closely with all levels of our highly reputable team to perform Cost Management and Estimating services. With projects ranging in size from $1 million to $3 billion, our team delivers solutions to clients in the areas of Conceptual Estimating, Budget Development, Cost Planning, Feasibility Studies, Value Management, Economic Forecasting, Cost and Schedule Risk Analysis, Change Order Review, Life Cycle Costing, and more.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage client relationships, ensuring client expectations of deliverables are consistently met and exceeded.  

  • QA/QC, completion, and delivery of final deliverables, with an emphasis on internal and external communication of encountered problems and solutions.

  • Provide proposal support and technical writing to advance the business development effort.

  • Development of Junior Estimators and Quantity Surveyors, including team leading, mentoring, training, and oversight.  

  • Attend meetings, and provide professional opinion involving construction costs.

  • Prepare accurate and detailed construction / project cost estimates from schematic, design development through final construction document level design.

  • Development of work product templates and assemblies.

  • Comparative research and analyses of data activities for reports and variance analyses.

  • Prepare, review, estimate, and reconcile change order estimates, often with Contractors or a peer review Estimator.

  • Prepare detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates for systems and subsystems.

  • Research prices on material and labor using published documents, local sub trade conditions, and market studies and develop and nurture subcontractor/vendor relationships.

  • Maintain estimating and cost history databases.

  • Review and understand all project plans, documents, and specifications.

  • Perform and review accurate quantity takeoffs and material pricing.

  • Understand project logistics and project schedule.


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in the Design, Engineering, Construction Management or Economics industry and/or 8-15+ years of relevant experience.

  • Experience managing a wide range of projects and experience managing people.

  • Advanced skill level in MCACES MII, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Crystal Ball, OnScreen Takeoff, and/or other Estimating Software.

  • Advanced skill level in Excel.

  • Certification in one or more of the following including, but not limited to: CEP, CCP, PE, CVS, PMP

  • Deals with ambiguity – can effectively cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty.

  • Written/Oral communication – ability to speak and write clearly and concisely, get messages across that have the desired effect.

  • Hard worker and team player ‐ no task too small. Getting the job done and exceeding client expectations is the key to integrating successfully into our team.

  • Self‐Starter – able to start and complete projects independently.

  • Time Management – uses time effectively and efficiently, can attend to a broader range of activities, gets more done in less time than others.

  • Possess a membership position in a professional organization such as AFCEA, SAME, etc.
